"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." A good point there young Juliet, however, this letter from our coffin chinned leader is no rose.
This is all very shit isn't it on all sides. I don't think for one minute The Sun newspaper gives a hoot about this poor mother's grief and anger, they're just exploiting the death of her son as it's an opportunity for them to give Gordon Brown a hard time - but, it does show what an incompetent tactless oaf our Prime Minister is.
I know he has poor eyesight so fair enough he needs to write his letters in thick black felt tip pen (so he can read them!?) but that's no excuse for getting the soldiers name wrong. And what has poor eyesight got to do with poor spelling? And even if he was blind it wouldn't excuse the tone of the letter sounding so insincere.
This letter is really a rather appropriate metaphor for his handling of this war. Badly prepared, badly put together, using the wrong equipment and without a clue how to execute or end it. Even more depressing though, is a letter from Miliband, Cameron or Nick Clegg would be even less consoling. Miliband's would be written in Crayon, Cameron would probably spray it with Brute Aftershave and Clegg would just go on about how many women he's shagged.
This of course is the consequence of letting a bunch of career politicians loose in the House of Commons who have no life experiences outside of politics. Running around playing Winston Churchill like a bunch of kids wearing their parents' clothes. Bugsy Malone set in Westminster. Once again, it's quite depressing really.
This is how you write to the bereaved
