So Tin Tin then. People with very little to do with their time except wear cardigans, read the Daily Express and find things to be offended about on other people's behalf, have claimed that Tin Tin is both racist and colonialist.
Citing an episode as proof which involves Tin Tin teaching a group of African children and attempting to persuade them that Belgium is the fatherland. Racist because it depicts the Africans as dumb asses and colonialist because of it's absurd attempt to claim that Belgium is the fatherland of anywhere.
It's none of these things of course, it's many many things before it's racist or colonialist. It's extremely laughable bullshit first and foremost. No doubt in the next scene, these African children, previously completely detached from civilisation, can be seen rolling around laughing their bollocks off at the thought of Belgium being their fatherland. Without even knowing where Belgium is they must have strongly suspected it was as significant a member of the global community as Guernsey.
Belgium surely has had every country in Europe rifling its way through Belgium on their way to somewhere important at one point of history or another. There's really no need to take anything a Belgian says seriously. Their most famous citizen is Hercule Poirot for fucks sake, and he's fictional.
Why are we talking about Tin Tin anyway? There was a reason, but I've forgotten it. I'm not myself today, I've had one of those weird days where you kind of just drift through it without...oh I know...The Thompson Twins..do you remember them? Three of them there was. One sort of gay bloke, a black guy and a woman with a massive hat. I liked them if I'm honest. Named after the twins in Tin Tin. I knew it would come to me. So, anyway yes.
